About The College
In late 2009, the Social Work Task Force called for the creation of an independent and strong organisation which would represent and support the social work profession. That organisation is The College of Social Work and we're now open to membership. The College is led by and accountable to its members, enabling you to be active in determining it's future and in undertaking its functions. We exists to uphold the agreed professional standards and promote the profession and the benefits it brings to the general public, media and policy makers. The College is currently operational in England.
Most professions have a regulator, a College to uphold standards and an association and/or trade union(s) to provide advice and representation for the profession. Social work in England has developed differently, and has been influenced by the state. Now is the time for the profession to take control of its destiny and develop its own authoritative voice.
The College is not a trade union or an association that provides representation and advice to members; that is a different role and we encourage our members to join a trade union or professional association of your choice to obtain this advice and representation. By not providing this service, we have kept our membership subscriptions low while providing members with high quality, practical and accessible membership services.
