Making sure your voice is heard

We want to make sure that our members are always given the opportunity to help shape and influence the future of the social work profession. Ongoing consultations with our members and people who use services are vital. We want to make sure that we listen to your concerns and hopes and accurately reflect these views when communicating with government, policy makers and the media.

  • As an independent membership organisation, we provide a strong voice for the profession when communicating with the public, policy makers, employers and the media.
  • We actively campaign on issues and policies that affect the social work profession to ensure that your voice is heard.
  • As an advocate for social work, we work with key decision makers in the government to influence and develop national policy and legislation that impacts on social work.
  • Through strategic and active campaigning, we work to raise the status and value of social work, giving the profession the positive recognition it deserves.

Mentoring service

Our mentoring service provides full members with an experienced and trained mentor who can offer advice, guidance and the benefit of his or her knowledge and experience as well as support with professional development and good practice issues. We launched a confidential, high quality mentoring service in January 2012 and we are constantly seeking members to act as mentors to fellow members. You will need to commit to at least four meetings over one year. Full training and support will be given. This is an unpaid role.

Media spokespeople

We are increasingly asked to provide spokespeople to speak on behalf of The College and the profession.

We do this in a number of ways, one is through our team of spokespeople who are trained and willing to speak to the public and the media on our behalf and on behalf of the profession. Another is to acquire a number of case studies that demonstrate best practice in social work across England. If you are interested in being a spokesperson or are able to offer a case study, we would love to hear from you.
