Surveys

We want to make sure that our members are always given the opportunity to help shape and influence the future of the social work profession.
Ongoing consultations with our members and people who use services are vital. We want to make sure that we listen to your concerns and hopes and accurately reflect these views when communicating with government, policy makers and the media.

Current consultations and surveys

Information about  all future consultations will be posted here.

Past consultations and surveys

While developing The College services we held numerous consultations with our prospective members and people who use services and carried out a number of surveys. Details of these can be found below

Consultation on changes to the Social Work Education Support Grant (SWEG)

The first phase of the consultation on the Education Support Grant has now closed. Thank you for your participation, which has been very full and helpful. Early in 2012, we will be launching a second consultation where we will make specific recommendations in relation to the management and administration of the grant. We hope that you will contribute again with equal insight and honesty at that time.

Health Professions Council - Consultation on standards of proficiency and levels of qualification for social workers in England
The government has announced that the regulation of social workers in England will transfer from the General Social Care Council (GSCC) to the Health Professions Council (HPC). This is expected to take place in July 2012. The HPC have launched two separate consultations setting standards for social workers and are inviting you to respond to the consultations.

  1. Consultation on the draft standards of proficiency for social workers in England
The standards of proficiency are the standards necessary for safe and effective practice for each part of the Register. The standards outline what individuals must know, understand and be able to do when they enter the Register and begin practising their profession.
  2. Consultation on the threshold level of qualification for entry to the Register as a social worker in England

Every time we open a new part of the HPC Register, we need to consult on amending our standards of education and training to set the threshold level of qualification for that group. The existing professional qualifying training in social work in England is a bachelor degree with honours or above. We are proposing to amend the standards of education and training to set the level for social workers in England as a bachelor degree with honours.
You can find copies of both consultation documents here: http://www.hpc-uk.org/aboutus/consultations/
