Promoting dialogue
The Media Centre centre holds a database of social work contacts across all areas of social work ranging from policy right through to front line practice. Through this we are in position to react proactively to breaking social work stories and to facilitate the engagement of the social work profession with national and local media.

Briefings
Media Centre staff regularly briefs journalists on aspects of social work to facilitate a better understanding of the profession and to help ensure a balanced view of social work throughout the media. We do this by providing journalists with access to social work information. We also facilitate media access to social work professionals, from expert practitioners to newly qualified social workers.
We hold regular media briefings guided by discussions with the social work community via the policy and communications unit of the College of Social work. Many of these briefings are to facilitate a better understanding of current issues.
Media training for Social Workers
As well as providing general advice to social workers wanting to engage with the media and crisis management support to local authority press offices, the Media Centre runs formal media training sessions for social work professionals. Visit our current opportunities page for information on how to apply.
