Membership services

Professional indemnity and public liability cover 

 £2m Professional Indemnity cover for members in local authority and organisational employment.
 £2m Professional Indemnity and £5m Public Liability cover for self-employed members.
The College of Social Work will cover your insurance excess in the event of a claim. 

TCSW currently operates in England. Insurance cover therefore only applies to social workers who are qualified and working in England. If some of your work involves working overseas or in the other countries of the UK Professional Indemnity cover is worldwide and Public Liability is within the European Union. We are sorry that we cannot currently offer this insurance to social workers who are qualified and working in other countries. Please contact us if you have any queries regarding insurance.

Membership categories and membership costs 

Registered Member Category (RM TCSW) 

For qualified and registered social workers, required to register with the regulator for employment purposes and who are required to keep their CPD up to date to maintain post registration training and learning (PRTL). Provides access to all College services at a cost of, including professional indemnity cover of £2m.
Annual subscription: £60 (£5 a month). That’s only £1.15 a week before tax relief.

For independent / self employed social workers who are registered with the regulator. Provides access to all College services, including Professional Indemnity (£2m) and Public Liability (£5m) cover.
Annual subscription: £90 (£7.50 a month). That’s only £1.73 a week  before tax relief.

Member (M TCSW) 

For qualified social workers who are not registered (because they do not need to register for employment purposes), but are eligible for registration. Provides access to all College services, including professional indemnity cover of £2m.
Annual subscription: £60 (£5 a month). That’s only £1.15 a week before tax relief.

Affiliate (Af TCSW) 

For all student social workers and NQSWs until first employment. Provides access to all College services apart from peer mentoring.
Annual subscription: £10, payable as a lump sum That’s equivalent to 83p a month before tax relief.

 Associate (TCSW) 

For retired social workers, people who use social work services and carers and those not eligible for membership or registered membership because they are not qualified social workers. This can include:

  • lecturers and professors of social work and aligned subjects (who are not qualified social workers).
  • Senior Managers in Adults and Children’s Services departments (including Directors who are not qualified social workers)
  • chief officers of bodies that employ social workers (including for example Cafcass, NSPCC, MH Trusts, Local Authorities)
  • social workers and other interested people working in the devolved administrations

Provides access to a range of selected college services including Social Work Matters, the monthly e-magazine from The College of Social Work and discounts to events and conferences.
Annual subscription: £30 before tax relief, for employed individuals, payable as a lump sum, or £10 before tax relief, for unwaged individuals payable as a lump sum. That is equivalent to only £2.50 a month and 83p a month respectively.
