Speak up for Social Work Campaign– May 2011

In May 2011, we launched our first national campaign “Speak up for Social Work”, which aims to give a strong media and public voice to a profession that has received much negative publicity, but little recognition of its achievements.

Through “Speak up for Social Work”, we are giving social workers greater confidence to talk about what they do, and to foster a more honest and productive relationship between the profession and the media.

We are now:

  • Recruiting a team of College of Social Work spokespeople, who are being trained by experts to talk to the media about the reality of social work
  • Running a series of regional media briefings, inviting journalists and local authority communications managers to hear about The College and encouraging them to work closely with us to raise the profile of social work
  • Working closely with employers to encourage greater openness about the work of their social work departments.
